Based in our exciting salon, The Lounge, you will unleash your creativity across a range of makeup services such as bridal makeup, airbrushing and eyelash extensions while gaining an understanding of the science behind popular cosmetic products.

Whether working for yourself or as part of a team, it is important to understand how to promote and sell retail products in order to maximise sales, so our tutors will give you the best tips to ensure you are ready to put this into practice.

More information

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Photographic makeup
  • Promote and sell products and services
  • Anatomy and physiology for makeup services
  • Bridal makeup
  • Airbrush makeup
  • Individual eyelash extensions
  • Cosmetic makeup science
  • False eyelash application
  • Client care and communication
  • Health and safety in the salon

You will be assessed throughout the course by a combination of practical assessments, written assignments, end of module exams and portfolio building.

You should have successfully achieved a level 2 Hair and Media Makeup qualification or equivalent.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2025), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please visit our dedicated financial support page.

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have many career opportunities to choose from such as working in a salon, employment with a huge multi-national makeup brand, such as MAC, Nars or Bobbi Brown, or you might decide to become a freelance Makeup Artist.

Alternatively, you may choose to expand your knowledge and skill set by progressing on to:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies
  • Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology

Additional Information

As part of this course, you are required to wear a uniform and there is also a kit required to complete your assessments. This can be purchased from a recommended supplier and you may be eligible for financial support to cover these costs.
