Our Wine Tasting course offers a fresh take on the world of wine. It will help you to discover which wines you like and why.

This course is perfect for the absolute beginner through to wine enthusiasts. It will also make the perfect gift for a wine lover!

More information

This course is due to start on Tuesday 13th January 2026. You will attend college on Tuesday evening from 7.00pm – 9.00pm, for four weeks.

This short, leisure course takes place in St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, Colours Restaurant, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

The course will provide you with an opportunity to deepen your knowledge about different wines and grapes, different wine regions, matching wine with food, with strong emphasis in developing and gaining skills in a systematic approach to wine tasting.

It will give you a general overview of wine from antiquity to modern times, focusing on factors that impact on style, quality, packaging, storage, price etc. Every week there will be a practical tasting session of two white wines and two red wines.

It’s a great way to meet new people who share your passion for wine.

There is no formal assessment. As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.

If you are not a wine connoisseur, do not worry, as there are no formal entry requirements.

You will need to be at least 18 years old to participate and proof of age with a valid ID is required.

The total cost of this course is £130. This is a full cost course meaning that there are no fee discounts available. The course price is inclusive of all wines that you will taste at each session.

You will also get to choose a bottle of wine from each session to take home with you to enjoy.

You may wish to progress on to our other Colours Cookery School courses or alternatively you may choose to pursue an accredited qualification in this subject, to continue to build your culinary skills and experience.
