What to Expect

If you’re currently in year 11 or aged 16–18 and have applied to start at St Helens College this September, attending Experience Day is the next step towards securing your place.

What is Experience Day?

Experience Day is your opportunity to truly step into college life. You’ll spend more time in your chosen subject area through hands‑on practical and taster activities, helping you feel confident that you’re choosing the right course before enrolling on GCSE results day. On the day, you’ll also be able to:

  • Get hands‑on with any uniforms, kits, or specialist equipment linked to your course
  • Start building friendships by meeting other students you’ll be studying with in September
  • Enjoy a range of fun, social activities during the lunch break
Lunch

Lunch will be provided on the day, so there’s no need to bring your own – just come prepared to enjoy it!

Student Support and Enrolment

Throughout the day, you’ll receive important information about the support available at college, including:

  • A bursary application form to take home and return during your first week
  • Key details about the enrolment process
Event Timings
  • Start time: 9:00am
  • Check-in: 9:00am – 9:30am
  • Finish time: 3:00pm

Please note that students arriving after 9:30am may not be able to join the day, as sessions will already be in progress. Full attendance for the entire day is required.

If you attended Applicant Evening, that’s great – it was your chance to explore your options and find out more about college. Experience Day confirms your choice. It gives you more time in your chosen subject, with hands on activities that help you feel confident you’ve made the right choice and ready for enrolment.
If you’re unable to attend Experience Day, please let us know as soon as possible. While attendance is strongly recommended, we understand that some students may have unavoidable commitments. We’ll record your absence and provide guidance on what to do next, including how to stay on track for enrolment. Please email to let us know if you cannot attend, admissions@sthelens.ac.uk.

Attending Experience Day is an important part of your application journey, but it does not guarantee a place on your course.

Your place is confirmed once you meet the entry requirements and successfully enrol, which takes place on 20th August 2026.

No preparation is needed. Just arrive on time, ready to take part and enjoy the day. Lunch will be provided.

Yes. Experience Day runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm, and students are expected to attend for the full duration to get the most out of the experience.

Experience Day is designed for students to attend independently, giving you the chance to experience college life in a more realistic way – just like a normal college day.

Parents and carers do not need to attend. Experience Day is about helping you feel confident, comfortable, and ready for enrolment.
