Whether you are looking to embark on an exciting new career, unlock career progression opportunities, or simply learn for enjoyment, we have lots of courses to choose from, with start dates throughout the year.

Access to HE

Access to Higher Education (HE) courses are designed to help you gain the skills and qualifications you need to successfully progress onto a university level course.

Online Learning

You will complete the course through an interactive online learning platform and will be assessed through a series of online assessments, with no formal exams.

Personal Statement

In this section please provide us with reasons why you are applying for the course, including why you want to study this course, what you hope to do once you have completed the course and any personal qualities or characteristics you feel are relevant to your application. Please detail any previous qualifications or training in counselling. Please provide us with any current or previous experience (paid or voluntary) in using counselling skills, pastoral care, or similar.

Personal Statement

Please provide a statement of around 1500 words detailing:

• Why you wish to study the course
• Your previous experience of Level 3 learning
• What you hope to do once you have completed the course
• Relevant life experience
• Your personal qualities
• Your understanding of the counselling process and how counselling differs from other forms of helping In addition to the six hours a week in college, you will need to complete 100 client hours on placement over the two years, 1.5 hours of clinical supervision, monthly (possibly more) and 20 hours of personal counselling with a therapist of your choice. Please include details in your personal statement of any commitments you may have, including work, and how you intend to manage this to ensure you are able to fully commit to the required level of training.

You MUST complete the Personal Statement section below to apply for an Access to Higher Education.

    • Art and design product
    • Introduction to life drawing
    • Relief printmaking
    • Introduction to drawing and painting
    • Materials exploration: sculpture
    • Extended study in the visual arts
    • Introduction to photography
    • Graphic skills development
    • Computer imaging for art and design
    • Introduction to visual research
    • Application of drawing

  • Developmental Module
    • Academic essay writing
    • Developing research skills
    • Appling for university

You will study:

  • Health Studies
  • Psychology or Microbiology
  • Human Biology
  • Developmental

We recommend studying the Psychology (Pathway 1) if you are looking for a career in:

  • Nursing (General/Paediatric/Mental Health)
  • Midwifery
  • Child Health and Wellbeing
  • Counselling
  • Psychology
  • Environmental Health
  • Public Health
  • Health Studies
  • Health and Social Care.

This may be studied either in the daytime or in the evening.

Please complete a Personal Statement outlining why you wish to complete the course, what you would like to progress on to in terms of a degree course or future career and what work experience (paid or voluntary), qualifications, training or personal experience you have that is relevant to the course.

You will study:

  • Health Studies
  • Psychology or Microbiology
  • Human Biology
  • Developmental

We recommend studying the Microbiology (Pathway 2) if you are looking for a career in:

  • Microbiology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Emergency Response (Paramedic)
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise, Health and Fitness
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)
  • Teaching (you may require GCSE Science in some circumstances)

This will be studied in the Daytime only.

Based on your chosen career path, you will have the opportunity to study:

  • History
  • Sociology
  • Law or English
  • Development Units

Upon successful completion, you could undertake a degree in a variety of fields including Social Work, Teaching, Psychology, Sociology, Politics, English and History.
