Access to HE

Access to Higher Education (HE) courses are designed to help you gain the skills and qualifications you need to successfully progress onto a university level course.

Hybrid Learning

You will complete the course through an interactive online learning platform and will be assessed through a series of online assessments, with no formal exams.

Part-time Higher Education

If you want to study a degree or HNC/D but cannot attend university on a full-time basis, studying part-time is a great way to balance further study with other commitments such as work.

Personal Statement

In this section please provide us with reasons why you are applying for the course, including why you want to study this course, what you hope to do once you have completed the course and any personal qualities or characteristics you feel are relevant to your application. Please detail any previous qualifications or training in counselling. Please provide us with any current or previous experience (paid or voluntary) in using counselling skills, pastoral care, or similar.

Personal Statement

Please provide a statement of around 1500 words detailing:

• Why you wish to study the course
• Your previous experience of Level 3 learning
• What you hope to do once you have completed the course
• Relevant life experience
• Your personal qualities
• Your understanding of the counselling process and how counselling differs from other forms of helping In addition to the six hours a week in college, you will need to complete 100 client hours on placement over the two years, 1.5 hours of clinical supervision, monthly (possibly more) and 20 hours of personal counselling with a therapist of your choice. Please include details in your personal statement of any commitments you may have, including work, and how you intend to manage this to ensure you are able to fully commit to the required level of training.

Please note: Applicants must have achieved English and Maths GCSEs at grade A-C (or grade 9-4 or equivalent).

If you wish to study Access Health Professionals Evening Route, you must also have achieved Science GCSE at grade A-C (or grade 9-4 or equivalent).
