Level 1 Award in Creative Craft

This course is designed for learners who already have basic skills in their chosen subject, but who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in their creative craft.

You can choose between two pathways, Art and Design which covers drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and photography, or Textiles and Sewing, with the teaching and assessment tailored to your chosen pathway.

This course starts on Tuesday 30th September. You will attend college one evening per week, from 6.00pm – 9.00pm, throughout the year with 8 sessions per term.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens WA10 1PP.

Depending on your chosen pathway, you’ll be able to explore a variety of materials and techniques.

Textiles and Sewing

  • Wax-resist batik
  • Pleating
  • Shirring
  • Zips
  • Machine sewing techniques
  • Freehand machine embroidery

As you experiment, you’ll discover how artists use personal themes to shape and develop their ideas, giving you inspiration for your own creative projects.

Throughout the course, you’ll also have the chance to share your work, receive feedback, and reflect on how your skills and ideas are progressing.

You will create a portfolio of work, which demonstrates achievement of the outcomes and criteria for each unit.

This course is aimed at those who have previously completed a short Art and Design short course, or for those who already have some experience and basic skills in the subject area.

The cost of this course is £672.

You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

Depending on your skills and goals, you could choose to progress on to our Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media Practice or the Access to Higher Education Art and Design course, which are routes into Higher Education.
