This course takes place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

Learners will explore the fundamentals of bookkeeping and gain an understanding of why accurate financial records are important for businesses. They will develop confidence in carrying out everyday bookkeeping tasks and learn how to record financial transactions using a cashbook.

As the course progresses, learners will be introduced to ledgers and the principles of double-entry bookkeeping, as well as basic bank reconciliation techniques used to compare financial records with bank statements.

The course also covers key financial documents and simple financial reporting, helping learners to understand and interpret profit and loss information. In addition, learners will gain an introduction to VAT and explore digital bookkeeping tools that support accurate and efficient record-keeping.

The course is assessed through practical bookkeeping tasks completed during lessons, such as recording transactions, updating cashbooks and completing simple reconciliations.

Tutors will monitor progress through informal observation and short skills checks to ensure learners can apply the knowledge and techniques covered during the course.

The course is open to all, with no formal entry requirements. Learners simply need an interest in understanding how business finances work and a willingness to take part in practical activities.

The total cost of this course is £75. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

On successful completion of this course, learners can progress to a range of further learning opportunities, including the Level 1 AAT Award in Bookkeeping.

Many learners use their new skills to support a small business, manage their personal finances more confidently, or take their first step towards roles in accounts, finance, or office administration.
