Level 2 Skills for Further Learning and Employment (Pre-Access)

If you are hoping to return to education to enhance your career prospects, develop study skills and work towards progressing on to higher education, then this course is a great stepping stone to achieving this.

The course has start dates in September and February and will take 13 weeks to complete. You will attend College on a Thursday, 9.30am to 12.30pm.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

This level 2 course will introduce learners to topics that will develop their academic writing, employability, and life skills. The programme will help learners advance their knowledge and skills as well as build new relationships, confidence and self-esteem.

You will have the opportunity to study units including:

  • Planning for Higher Education
  • Target setting and personal development
  • Word processing
  • Presentation skills
  • Research skills
  • Academic referencing
  • Planning and writing an essay
  • Improving own learning and performance
The course is assessed through a range of assessment activities which may include assignments, reports, discussions, group work, presentations, portfolio of evidence.

No formal qualifications are required. However, learners will be expected to take a pre-entry literacy assessment. Applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

If you do not currently hold, or not currently working towards, GCSE (or equivalents) in both English and maths, you will be advised to complete these alongside your main programme of study.

The course fee is £201. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

The Level 2 Pre-Access Skills for Further Study has been designed to enable learners gain transferrable skills and knowledge in order to progress on to higher level qualifications, such as Access to HE Diplomas in a variety of subjects. During the course of your study, Access to HE Diploma course leaders will visit your classroom to discuss the variety of pathways offered at St Helens College.
