What is Clearing?

Picture of our Flavio and EmilyIf you have applied through UCAS to study at university, ‘Clearing’ is traditionally a service that UCAS provides, which enables you to secure a place on a degree, if you:

  • Have not received or have not accepted any offers
  • Have A level or BTEC results which are not quite as high as you expected, meaning you do not meet the entry requirements for either your firm or insurance choice
  • Do not have a firm or insurance choice place confirmed
  • Are looking to leave another university and transfer to University Centre St Helens

However, if you are a mature adult, who is returning to education and has not yet applied to study a degree, ‘Clearing’ is a fantastic opportunity for you to be able to do this. See ‘Not yet applied to study a degree?’ section below.

When does Clearing begin?

Picture of our Flavio and EmilyClearing opens on Monday 6th July for those who:

  • Already have their exam results
  • Hold no offers at their chosen universities

For everyone else, Clearing officially opens on A level Results Day, which is Thursday 13th August 2020.

Clearing closes mid-October 2020.

School Leavers’ Enrolment
Town Centre Campus and STEM Centre Campus

Get Ready to Enrol!

We know this year has been a little strange, but we are hoping to restore some kind of normal and getting you back on track to achieving your dream career.

We have changed our 16-18-year-old enrolment process slightly this year to ensure we are keeping you safe, and that we are adhering to COVID-19 guidelines around social distancing.

In readiness for starting your course in September, there are THREE steps that you will need to complete to secure your place and enrol with us.

Whether you are a returning student, looking to progress on to the next level of study or change courses or a new applicant, you will receive an email and a letter in the post from our Admissions Team, which will contain detailed information about all of the below.

Haven’t applied to us yet? No problem! Simply complete our school leavers’ application form by clicking or tapping the link here and our Admissions Team will be in touch via email and letter with the next steps to joining us at enrolment.

STEP 1
Online Pre-Enrolment Form

We have created an online enrolment form this year, which will enable us to capture all of your information ready for when you come into College to enrol. This will speed up the enrolment process for you including avoiding long queues.

STEP 2
Book Your Time Slot

Once you have completed the online pre-enrolment form, you need to book your preferred time slot on our Eventbrite booking system. You must book your time slot before visiting us so that we can adhere to social distancing measures.

STEP 3
Enrol at College

After receiving your GCSE results, come along to College at the time you have chosen on Eventbrite.

Returning students, your enrolment dates are Friday 21st August or Monday 24th August.

All other applicants aged 16-18, your enrolment date is Thursday 20th August.

Enrolment is an important final step to securing your place with us, as we’ll need to check your GCSE grades, confirm your place on the right course for you, and provide you with all the details about what to do on your first day!

If you have any questions regarding your application or the three step enrolment process, please contact our Admissions Team via admissions@sthelens.ac.uk, and they will be more than happy to help you.

Good luck with your GCSEs if you are expecting your results this summer, and we look forward to welcoming you all soon!

"I applied to study at University Centre St Helens in late July, which meant that I entered through Clearing. The process was simple and easy to do online - I just completed the Clearing enquiry form and a member of the Admissions Team got in touch to guide me through my next steps. I was a mature learner at the time, that had not been in education for some years and I received all of the support I needed to secure my place. I have since achieved my business, administration and management degree - it is the best decision I have made for my career!"
