This introductory qualification is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in accounting, finance or bookkeeping, with no previous experience required.

You will gain a solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles, learning how to record financial transactions accurately and understand the role financial information plays in supporting business operations.

Alongside developing practical accounting skills, you will build valuable employability skills that are highly sought after by employers in finance, administration, payroll and business support roles.

This course starts on Monday 2nd November and will take up to 20 weeks to complete.

You will attend college on a Monday, 5.30pm – 8.30pm.

The course will take place at our St Helens Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a bookkeeper
  • Identifying and processing financial transactions
  • Recording income and expenditure
  • Processing customer and supplier transactions
  • Recording receipts and payments
  • Understanding profit and loss, assets and liabilities
  • Using accounting software and understanding its benefits and risks
  • Developing an awareness of professional and ethical behaviour in accounting and finance

Assessment is through a computer-based exam, which is set and marked by AAT.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. This qualification is designed for beginners and provides a supportive introduction to accounting and bookkeeping.

The total cost of this course is £540. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

There is an additional cost of £47 for AAT membership.

This Level 1 AAT Award provides a strong foundation for progression to further professional accounting qualifications, such as the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.
