Level 1 Award in Introductory Metal Inert Gas Welding Skills

This course is designed to provide you with an introduction to the welding industry. It is suitable for those who wish to gain the practical skills and knowledge required for access to employment in the industry, those who are already employed and would like to obtain relevant and up to date practical skills and knowledge and those who would like to progress on to higher levels of study.

During the course you will develop your skills and gain an understanding of Metal Inert Gas welding process, equipment functions, and the correct procedures for health and safety that are paramount in this industry.

More information

This course has start dates in September, December and March and takes 10 weeks to complete. You will attend college one evening per week on a Thursday, 6.00pm – 9.00pm.

This course will take place at our STEM Centre Campus, St Helens WA9 1TT.

Students will study the Metal Inert Gas welding process and the health and safety required in a welding environment.

This course is assessed through completion of unit workbooks and practical assessment.

There are no entry requirements for this course, however it would be beneficial for you to have completed the Metal Inert Gas Welding Skills short course.

The total cost of this course is £576. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

Once you have completed this course, you may choose to progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Welding Techniques and Skills course.
