Are you looking to begin an exciting new career in the floristry industry? If you are eager to develop your creative flair alongside practical and technical skills, this course is the perfect starting point.

Designed for learners of all ages, the program provides the essential knowledge and hands-on experience needed to work in a professional florist environment. You’ll explore both practical and theoretical units, creating stunning designs for weddings, funerals, tied bouquets, and floral arrangements. Each piece you produce will reflect high standards as you master new floristry techniques.

You are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours’ work placement within the floristry industry; this will give you an insight of the day to day running of a floristry business.

The course has start dates in September and January, with both daytime and evening options available.

You can attend college on Monday and Thursday from 9.30am – 4.00pm, and the course will take 18 weeks to complete.

Alternatively, you can attend college on Tuesday from 5.30pm – 9.00pm and the course will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

You will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to art and design
  • Identify, check and monitor the quality of incoming cut materials
  • Plan, prepare and construct tied floristry designs
  • Plan, prepare and construct arrangements
  • Introduction to function decorating using floral displays

Each unit will be assessed through set assignments graded at pass, merit or distinction.

There will be one multiple-choice exam on the Art and Design unit.

No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience are required. However, a keen interest in floristry is essential, and students should have good literacy and numeracy skills.

The total cost of this course is £495. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

After successfully completing this qualification, you could choose to complete a top-up to achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Floristry.

You may also explore career opportunities such as working as a florist, floral designer, wedding planner, or even starting your own business.
