Working in our commercial salon, you will develop the skills needed to launch a successful career as a hairdresser.
You will practise on commercial clients, developing techniques in cutting, colouring and styling, while also learning how to carry out client consultations and master the art of shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp.
This course will prepare you for employment and provide an understanding of the day-to-day expectations of a professional salon environment.
The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.
Depending on your chosen campus you will attend College on Wednesday and Thursday.
This course will take place at our both our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP and Main Campus, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.

During the course you are also required to undertake work experience to prepare you for employment, increase your chance of job offers and use your experience as a reference.
Assessment takes place throughout the course, with students initially practising their skills on friends and family members before progressing to work with paying clients.
As part of the course, a portfolio of evidence must be produced to showcase the practical skills developed throughout the year. This will be submitted for verification.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, learners should have good literacy, numeracy and communication skills.

Additional Information
As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier, Dennis Williams. More information will be provided during the application process and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
Once you have successfully completed this course, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing the Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing.
You are also eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. As a Junior Hairdresser/Stylist, you could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts including:
