Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner

This course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age, with applied knowledge in the early years, 0–5 years.

This qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

Upon successful completion of this course, learners can enter the workforce as a fully qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner. You could also choose to progress on to the level 3 Diploma to gain Early Years Educator status.

The course starts in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend College on a Thursday, 9.30am – 3.00pm.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

You will study the following topics:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
  • Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years
  • Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
  • Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
  • Support care routines for babies and young children
  • Support the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational
  • Promote play in an Early Years Setting
  • Support well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
  • Support babies and young children to be physically active
  • Support the needs of babies and young children with Special Educational Needs and Disability
  • Promote positive behaviour in Early Years Settings
  • Partnership working in the early years
  • Support the needs of the child in preparing for school

You will build a portfolio of work throughout the course which will be assessed.

No previous qualifications are required to complete this course.

The total cost of this course is £879. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

You may choose to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator to become qualified as a fully licensed Early Years Educator or the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools to specialise in a Teaching Assistant based role.
