This course is suitable for those who currently work or volunteer within a health and social care setting, and are looking to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed when working with adults in health and social care settings.which will allow them to professionally progress in their career.

It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures.

This course has various start dates throughout the year, and will take up to one year to complete.

Attendance at College is not required, as the qualification is delivered within the workplace. You will be assigned a tutor/assessor at the beginning of the course, who will work with you throughout the programme.

During this course, you will cover:

  • Safeguarding
  • Responsibilities of a care worker
  • Communication in a care setting
  • Duty of care
  • Handle information in care settings
  • Personal development in care settings
  • Equality and inclusion in a care setting
  • Health, safety and wellbeing in a care setting
  • Implement person-centred approaches in care settings

In addition to the mandatory units above, you will also choose up to an additional 9 optional units.

You will be assessed through written assignments, reports, and direct observation of your work practice.

You do not need any formal qualifications, however, you must be employed within a health and social care role, or completing voluntary work of 6 hours per week.

It is advised that you already have at least 3 months' experience of working in the industry before you begin this course.

The course fee is £921. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

Once you have completed this course, you may choose to progress on to the level 3 Diploma in Adult Care to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Alternatively, you may wish to secure employment and begin your career as a Health Care Assistant, Support Worker or a Personal Care Assistant.
