Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills

This programme is ideal for anyone whose work involves the use of counselling skills (i.e. the caring roles within voluntary, statutory and private sectors) and to those wishing to train towards a career in counselling.

More information

This course starts in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend College on a Tuesday, 6.00pm – 9.00pm, or a Thursday, 9.30am – 12.30pm.

This course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

To achieve this qualification, the following units will be completed:

  • Understanding the context for the use of counselling skills
  • Understanding counselling theory
  • Using counselling skills
  • Personal development for users of counselling skills

Assessment is by internal assessment and internal and external moderation. A counselling skills practice assessment will be undertaken by the tutor.

Students will have completed the level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts or equivalent. Before places are offered, applicants will be interviewed to determine their suitability to undertake this training.

The total cost of this course is £811. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees. An Advanced Learner Loan enables you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.

Upon successful completion of this course, you may choose to use this to progress in your career on to the next level of training in counselling skills.
