University Centre St Helens proudly celebrated the outstanding achievements of its graduates at a memorable Graduation Ceremony held at St Helens Parish Church.
The event brought together graduates, their families, friends, academic staff, and this year’s Honoured Guest, Omar Sharif – an award-winning keynote speaker, bestselling author, and TEDx presenter. The day began with a vibrant procession through St Helens Town Centre, led by the Town Crier, Parr Band, and Valley Brass Band, before arriving at the historic church.
Simon Pierce, CEO and Principal of St Helens College, opened the ceremony with an address reflecting on the resilience and success of the graduating class, highlighting the exceptional academic results achieved during the 2024–2025 academic year. that included an outstanding overall pass rate of 97.3%.
Simon then introduced Omar Sharif. Widely recognised as one of the UK’s most influential voices in leadership, communication, and personal reinvention, Omar has also been honoured by His Majesty King Charles III for his contribution to youth and community development and recipient of the Pride of Britain Award.
In his keynote, Omar shared an inspiring message:
“You earned this moment. Your story is just beginning. Your future is bigger than your fears. Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep becoming.”

Each year, University Centre St Helens presents special awards to graduates who have demonstrated extraordinary resilience and determination:
The Brian Dean Award
Jennifer, Foundation Degree in Applied Microbiology graduate, overcame significant personal challenges as a single parent of two, achieving a distinction while balancing full-time study, work, and caring responsibilities.
Jennifer is now progressing to Level 6 and aspires to a career in forensic science within the police service.
The Microbiology Award
Anparasi, originally from Sri Lanka, reignited her academic ambitions after moving to St Helens.
Graduating with a distinction in Applied Microbiology, she is now progressing to a BSc (Hons) and exemplifies perseverance and passion for science.
The Rotary Club Award
Kayleigh, BA Graphic Design graduate, achieved First Class Honours despite facing motherhood, family illness, and mental health challenges.
Kayleigh actively contributed to local cultural projects and community initiatives, inspiring others that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.
The day concluded with a canapé reception prepared by St Helens College’s catering and hospitality students, accompanied by live music from talented saxophonist Sophia Sax.
