Our Public and Uniformed Services students and staff pushed their bodies to the limit in a demanding physical challenge to raise money for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital Charity to thank them for helping to save tutor Grant Williams’ life.

In March 2024, Public and Uniformed Services tutor Grant Williams, had two cardiac arrests whilst training for the Manchester Marathon. His life was saved by his running group and two off-duty doctors, who provided emergency care. He was then taken into Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a quadruple heart bypass.

This is the second time the team has stepped up to raise as much money as possible for the hospital and their plan is to make it an annual event. For their 2026 challenge, staff and students donned their running shoes to hit the college treadmills and rowing machines to complete ten marathons and 42,000 press-ups, all within 24 hours. They managed to raise an amazing £1087.

Grant’s Public and Uniformed Services colleague Kelvin Gardner said:

We are so proud of the students for how hard they worked for this event. The day was extremely tough physically and mentally. Their muscles felt the effort for days!
