Employer Tuesday: Murphy invest in apprentices

Share page:

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week’s, ‘Employer Tuesday’ theme, we spoke to one of our valued employers, Murphy, on the importance of apprentices to the success of their business.

Murphy is a leading international, specialist engineering and construction company founded in 1951 with a purpose to improve life by delivering world-class infrastructure.

Operating in the United Kingdom, Ireland and North America, Murphy provides better-engineered solutions to infrastructure sectors including transportation, natural resources, power and water.

Murphy employs around 4,000 engineers, professional managers, and skilled operatives around the world, directly delivering the people, plant and expertise needed to make projects a success.

Speaking to Jacqui, Head of Shared Services at Murphy’s Golborne offices, who currently oversees six AAT Accounting apprentices enrolled at the College, she explained:

We significantly invest in apprenticeships across the company, dedicating time to training, coaching and mentoring which, when combined with the theory and guidance provided by the College, drives quality in the skills our apprentices develop.

Jacqui summarised:

Apprenticeships are crucial to our company. They allow us to input in to the programme to aid the theory with practical experience that suits the needs of our workplace and creates more opportunities for development for all staff. I would highly recommend other employers consider apprenticeships as a key method of staff training.

St Helens College and Knowsley Community College have built strong relationships with hundreds of employers across the Liverpool City Region and surrounding areas and are proud to provide apprenticeships that are helping to grow businesses, develop employees of the future and deliver talent pipelines to meet skills needs.
