Our college nursery has been rated as meeting a “strong standard” in all six areas by Ofsted inspectors.

Located in Brook Street in the town centre, the nursery is praised for its caring environment, effective teaching and strong leadership.

Inspectors said:

“Children thoroughly enjoy their time at this welcoming and inclusive nursery. Staff take time to get to know children and their families and truly value children as unique individuals

“A deep sense of togetherness, belonging and care is what makes this nursery so special. Children feel happy and safe and are ready to learn.”

The nursery has been operating since 1986 and all staff are qualified from level 3 to level 6 with various early years qualifications. It is registered for 64 children with a range of college students children, staff and some external uses who access their funded hours with us.

Nursery Manager Nicola Glover said:

“Earning a ‘strong’ Ofsted grade is a fantastic recognition of the high standards we strive for every day. It is clear proof of our commitment, our passion, and our belief in every child.”

The inspector also praised the progress made by all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

“All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make significant progress from their individual starting points.”

In addition, staff were commended for their approach to learning and behaviour management, particularly highlighting them “acting as good role models for the expectations they set” and for teaching the children the importance of taking turns, ensuring they are well prepared for their next stage of learning, whether moving rooms within the nursery or transferring to school.”

Inspectors said:

“Older children thoroughly enjoy story time with staff. They eagerly join in and engage as staff read in a way that excites children and supports their anticipation.”

This is emphasised by activities being built around children’s interests, with staff providing experiences that spark curiosity and encourage independence and exploration.

Support for families was also praised, with the report stating:

“Leaders have established excellent links with parents and carers"

“Parents feeling valued, included and respected."

“Parents commend staff on their unwavering support for inclusion. This goes beyond support for their child, as it encompasses support for the whole family.”

The nursery was also found to meet all safeguarding requirements, with a positive culture of child protection embedded throughout the setting.
